Azoomee

IOS, Android – Lead UX/UI
2015

The Project:

“Azoomee” is an acclaimed app developed in collaboration with the NSPCC and the BBC. It serves as a safe and enriching space for children to both learn and play. My role in this project was as the lead designer, working directly with the company owners to design the overall container app that would host other applications within it.

The Process:

  • Presentations with Hand-Drawn Wireframes: To communicate and conceptualize the design to stakeholders, I began by producing a series of presentations. These presentations incorporated hand-drawn wireframes that helped illustrate the design direction and functionality of the container app. This visual approach was effective in conveying ideas clearly.

  • Refinement through Stakeholder Feedback: The design process involved a cycle of feedback and refinement. Input from stakeholders was invaluable in shaping the design. We continued to refine the design until it received signoff from the key decision-makers, ensuring alignment with the project’s goals and vision.

  • Management of External Partners and Creative Agency: A significant aspect of the project involved collaborating with external partners and overseeing a creative agency. This partnership was essential in producing the final user interface (UI) and developing the application to ensure it met the desired standards and functionality

Final Thoughts:

  • Complexity in Child vs. Adult Versions: “Azoomee” presented a noteworthy level of complexity when it came to accommodating both child and adult versions of the application. Balancing the need for a child-safe environment with features that adults could also utilize required careful consideration and design solutions. Additionally, the concept of the ‘family’ system added an extra layer of intricacy to the project.
  • Managing External Agencies and BBC Collaboration: The project provided valuable experience in managing external agencies and collaborating with a prestigious organization like the BBC. These interactions enriched the project and offered insights into effective collaboration within the industry.

In summary, “Azoomee” was a remarkable project that involved designing a safe and enriching app for children in collaboration with notable organizations. My role as lead designer encompassed the creation of the container app, and the project’s complexity, especially in balancing child and adult features, made it a valuable learning experience. Managing external agencies and collaborating with the BBC further added to the project’s depth and significance.
