Levis Print Shop

IOS, Android – Lead UX/UI
2022

The Project:

I was tasked with the role of the solo designer for a highly innovative project in collaboration with Levi’s. The overarching goal was to create an interactive clothing customizer that seamlessly integrated into Levi’s physical stores and the mobile environment. This customizer was envisioned to be more than just a practical tool; it needed to incorporate gamified elements that engaged and delighted users. Levi’s had a clear vision for a shopping experience that resembled the Amazon content style, accompanied by intuitive drag-and-drop functionality within a game-like inventory and customization system.

The Process:

  • Prototyping and Design Exploration: My journey commenced with rapid prototyping using Proto.io. This platform allowed me to explore various design possibilities and build upon Levi’s initial concept. Through iterations and experimentation, we refined the project’s design, ensuring it met the client’s expectations.

  • Creating a Gamified Drag-and-Drop System: A pivotal aspect of the project was developing an engaging drag-and-drop system. This system was designed to not only facilitate clothing customization but also to infuse a sense of play and enjoyment into the experience. The incorporation of gamified elements within the inventory system heightened user engagement and interactivity.

  • Dashboard-Style Backend Development: To ensure that the project remained flexible and adaptable, we collaborated closely with the development team to create a sophisticated dashboard-style backend. This allowed Levi’s to have real-time control over content updates and stock management. This dynamic approach was essential to keep the customizer current and reflective of the available inventory.
  • Art Direction for a Multifaceted Deployment: As the project evolved, my role expanded to include art direction. I worked meticulously to tailor the design to suit the unique requirements of both flagship Levi’s stores and the mobile platform. Adapting the interface for these distinct environments demanded a keen eye for detail and aesthetic coherence.

Final Thoughts:

  • In-Store Deployment: One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was witnessing the deployment of the customizer on large touchscreens within Levi’s physical stores across the globe. Seeing customers interact with and benefit from a product I had contributed to was a truly gratifying experience.
  • Learning from Levi’s Art Team: The opportunity to collaborate closely with Levi’s in-house art team was a valuable educational experience. Their expertise and creative insights provided fresh perspectives and expanded my understanding of design and art direction in the context of a renowned brand.

In summary, this project was a pivotal moment in my career, blending elements of rapid prototyping, gamification, and collaboration with a globally recognized brand like Levi’s. It demonstrated the power of innovation and creativity in enhancing the retail experience and provided both a memorable journey and significant learning opportunities. The project’s potential to transform the way consumers interact with clothing in physical stores and on mobile platforms was truly inspiring.
